Across the board
This week marks the end of the school year for high school seniors across the county and they will participate this weekend in commencement exercises.
This won't turn into a long and flowery discourse on the opportunities that await these young people after they graduate. Let's just say "Congratulations and good luck" and leave it at that.

More and more campaign signs are popping up in yards and windows. Candidates and their supporters are reminded that the signs must be on private property — not on city, county, or state-owned property including rights of way.

The circus will be in town Friday. Have you bought your tickets? Part of the proceeds go to the Central Park Improvement Committee. Even if you can't attend, buy a ticket or two. You can give the tickets away and besides, it's for a great cause.

Here at the Record office, we get calls from people with suggestions and tips. We take each call seriously and consider each comment.
Pat Jackson recently called to ask that we start putting a calendar of events in the paper each week. Years ago, it was a standing column but somehow fell by the wayside as time went by.
Anyone who attended Marion High School before the mid-1980s probably had Pat for a teacher and can remember learning the names of the Supreme Court justices and having to sing them in class. And anyone who knows me well, knows I don't sing.
I don't remember how I got around that — it was so traumatizing I've forgotten — but Mrs. Jackson was a great teacher and I always take her comments and suggestions seriously.
So, beginning this week, look for the calendar of events.

The county commission is still discussing the recycling issue. Do you have an opinion? Let the commission know your thoughts. Express your views in a letter to the editor. I'm curious to see what the public thinks. This issue won't be resolved anytime soon.

There is a rather pointed comment about customer service in the Your Turn column elsewhere on this page. I tend to agree with the writer — it is all about customer service. That's absolutely the single most important thing small-town businesses have going for them.

Last but not least, I've been receiving some poetic Your Turn comments that can't be printed. They have provided some chuckles amongst the staff. Thanks. We can use a good laugh every now and then.
