Adopt a rhino
Chingawassa Days will be here before we know it and the steering committee has come up with a novel way to promote community involvement in the annual festival.
Individuals and businesses have an opportunity to show their support for Chingawassa Days by purchasing a concrete rhino.
The committee hopes everyone jumps on the bandwagon and gets involved in the fun of Chingawassa Days by adopting a rhino. As the festival draws near, the town will be overrun with rhinos, the official mascot of Chingawassa Days.
The 130-pound concrete rhinos can be painted or decorated to depict your business or a favorite hobby then displayed at your business or in your yard. They can be decked out like Uncle Clyde or dressed up like Aunt Harriet. You are only limited by your imagination.
Chingawassa Days has put Marion on the map with a wide variety of big-name entertainment. What better way to show that Marion residents and businesses are proud of Chingawassa Days and glad to have people come here for the event. It's also a good way to show community unity.
Who knows? If this takes off, rhinos could become Marion's mascot — like the Burns roosters.
Contact a Chingawassa committee member by Feb. 11 to get on the rhino bandwagon.
