Agent 5 Nine to record live CD

Agent 5 Nine, an alternative rock band from the Bonner Springs-Kansas City area, hopes to see, and more importantly hear, lots of screaming teen-age music fans around 4 p.m. Saturday.
The band will perform on the Luta Creek Stage in Marion's Central Park, as part of the seventh annual Chingawassa Days celebration.
Part, perhaps a great deal, of the Marion concert will be included on a "recorded live" CD the band plans to have ready for release in the fall.
"Good crowd noise is important to a live CD," said Agent 5 Nine drummer Greg Krouse, a nephew of Pastor Rick Branson of Marion.
"We play pop punk and emo, high-energy, emotional music that's easy to get into. We emphasize vocal and instrumental harmonizing," he said.
Besides Krouse, band members are lead guitarist Mike Collins, rhythm guitarist James Pinick, and lead singer/bassist David Jones.
The group releases a full-length album (CD), "Places I've Been," in 2001. Another album, "The Fresh Scent of Pine," will be out in about two weeks, Krouse said.
They also released a five-song, extended play CD, "A Whole New Beginning," in 2000.
Agent 5 Nine has played 200 shows in the last 2 1/2 years, Krouse said. The foursome has played together for three years.
They are "self-booked," by Krouse, on the road for half of this month. "I'm working on August (bookings) now," he said.
A single by the band, "The Riff That Saved the World," is currently being featured on 105.9 The Laser, in Lawrence.
Agent 5 Nine's Web site is www.agent5-9.com. In addition to the Marion stop, they will play June 13 at The Menagerie in Parsons, at the Booby Trap in Topeka July 5, and Aug. 15 and 16 at America's Pub in Wichita.
At the Marion concert, the band will have all of its CDs available for purchase, as well as stickers, posters, and some singles, Krouse said.
Orders also will be taken for the upcoming CD to be out before the end of June, and for other band-related items.
The band's Web site, Krouse said, has links to rockkansas.com and MP3.com.
A second alternative band, Heads or Tails, also is slated to play Saturday on the Luta Creek Stage. The pair of concerts are set to last from 4 until about 5:30 p.m.
