Allison family vacations in Hawaii
Keith and Claudia Allison recently returned from a vacation in Hawaii, accompanied by their son Kendall and grandson Derrick Allison of McPherson and their daughter and family, Jackie and Terry Osborne, Nicolaus, Jeremy, and Kendra of Hudson, Colo.
Prior to their departure to Hawaii, the group attended a baseball game between the Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field. They also toured the headquarters of Celestial Seasonings Tea and spent a day in Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park where they hiked to Alberta Falls and around Bear Lake on a trail covered with deep snow.
Flying out of Denver, the group arrived in Honolulu where they spent five days, visiting the USS Arizona Memorial and the National Cemetery (Punch Bowl). They spent a day at the Polynesian Cultural Center enjoying a luau and spectacular evening show. They climbed Diamond Head and also had fun swimming and surfing and trying other water sports.
The group attended church at Kawaiaha'o Church which is significant because the prayers, scripture, and hymns are in both Hawaiian and English. This is the church attended by the royalty of Hawaii prior to statehood.
The group then flew to Hawaii where they toured the Volcano National Park and watched the lava flow at night. The next day, some of the group hiked the two and one-half miles to see the lava close up as it flowed into the ocean. Others in the group visited the Akaka State Park.
