Alva Nelson

Alva Nelson, 97, died Dec. 21, 2001, at Friendly Acres, Newton.

He was born April 14, 1904, at Stockdale.

He retired from Santa Fe Railroad as a boilermaker foreman after 40 years of employment.

He married Mae Magathan. She died in 1959. He was a member of the Methodist church and was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Shrine, as well as Past Worthy Patron of the Tirzah Chapter of Eastern Star at Kansas City.

He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Swillinger of Chicago, Ill., and one grandchild.

A memorial service was held Thursday morning at Friendly Acres Chapel at Newton with Pam Martinez officiating. Graveside services were held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Marion Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with Friendly Acres.
