Alvina Hoffman
Alvina Hoffman, 95, died Jan. 19, 2004, at St. Luke Living Center, Marion.
Born April 30, 1908, at Springfield, S.D., she was the daughter of David and Susanna (Dirks) Ratzlaff.
She graduated from Tabor College with a degree in elementary education and taught in Marion County for 22 years.
On Dec. 25, 1930, she married Earl Hoffman at Newton. He died in 1998.
She was a longtime member of Youngtown United Methodist Church, Eastmoor United Methodist Church, the retired teachers' group, United Methodist Women, and Marion County Democratic Women.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Leonard Earl, five brothers, and a sister.
Survivors include a son, LaVern Hoffman of Ventura, Calif.; a daughter, LaVina Smith of Seattle, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marilyn Cox officiating.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Zeiner Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Grant Township Cemetery, rural Marion.
A memorial fund has been established with the church.
