Andrew Donahue places in national competition
Andrew Donahue of rural Lincolnville recently competed in the National Sporting Clays Association shoot-out at San Antonio, Texas. He took third place in the 15 to 18-year-old group.
Sporting clays, sometimes known as blue rocks, simulate actual field hunting with clays flying by at speeds and angles similar to live birds.
Donahue hit 268 of 300 clay targets to win third place. The first-place shooter hit 273.
Donahue was presented with a check for $1,700, a trophy, and other awards.
He has been shooting clays for about two years and uses a 12-gauge shotgun. He spends most of his free time practicing and participates in local and state competition nearly every weekend.
"I really exceeded my own expectations," Donahue said. "Now that I know what I can do and have some experience, I hope to go back next year and do even better."
He is the son of Tim and Lisa Donahue and a sophomore at Centre High School.
