Annual pilgrimage to Pilsen is Nov. 11 years ago

The Archdiocese of the Military Services is sponsoring the annual Pilgrimage to Pilsen Nov. 11.

The pilgrimage has been conducted for the past four years in honor of former Army chaplain Emil Kapaun, a Pilsen native who was a prisoner of war in Korea and died serving his fellow prisoners.

He has been declared a "Servant of God" by the Catholic Church, and is being celebrated as a person worthy of canonization.

Bishop Higgins of the military archdiocese and Bishop Michael Jackels of the Diocese of Wichita will be the principal celebrants at the 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. John Nepomucene Church.

Following the celebration of Mass, a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Kapaun statue. A luncheon will follow. All are welcome.
