Gib Rempel

George Gilbert "Gib" Rempel, 79, died Dec. 24, 2003, at Walnut Creek, Calif.

Born Dec. 15, 1924, in Peabody, he was the son of Dietrich Bergman and Tena (Bagenski) Rempel.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a tank driver and worked on rebuilding Okinawa's roads after the war.

After returning to Kansas he worked as a shepherd, farming on the family farm south of Lehigh, and spent some time working in Alaska. He moved to California and continued to work in the construction business.

On Feb. 11, 1957, he married Mary Jane Bryan at Fresno, Calif. The family moved to Walnut Creek in 1964.

He was preceded in death by both parents; three brothers, Abe, Ed, and Dietrich; and five sisters, Nettie Rittel, Tena Olsen, Sarah Nickel, Dorothy Williams, and Margaret Hett Karlowski Adler.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; three sons, Kenneth Eugene, Norman Leroy, and Dietrich Glenn; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Jan. 3 at Ouimet Bros. Chapel. Burial was in San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine, Calif.

Arnold Bentz

Arnold E. Bentz, 82, died Dec. 31, 2003, at Albuquerque, N.M.

He was born May 1, 1921, on a farm near Tampa and was the son of Phillip and Elsie Bentz.

He attended school at Tampa and served in the U.S. Navy for three and one-half years during World War II.

On Jan. 11, 1944, he married Lillian Gabrielson Nolan.

He retired from Sandia Labs after 37 years of service. He was a life-long member of the Lutheran church and taught Sunday school and was a choir member for 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Arnold Jr.; two sisters; and four brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Rhonda Bentz; daughter-in-law, Cathy Bentz; a brother, Otto Bentz of Tampa; a sister, Esther Loy of McPherson; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Jan. 5 and inurnment will follow at a later date.

Anthony Raccuglia

Anthony J. "Tony" Raccuglia, 80, died Jan. 10, 2004, at his home in Kansas City, Mo.

Born Aug. 14, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of Joseph and Josephine Raccuglia.

On June 9, 1946, he married Norma Skibbe at Marion. The couple made their home in Prairie Village, where they raised three children.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps at Great Bend during World War II. He worked as a barber for 29 years and was an insurance agent for 20 years before he retired in 1989.

He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Overland Park.

Survivors include his wife, Norma; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Kathy Raccuglia and Jay and Jan Raccuglia; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Chris Rogers; four brothers, Joe, Sam, Dan, and Dave; two sisters, Maria and Dominica; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at First Assembly of God Church, Overland Park.

Burial was in Park Lawn Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.

A memorial fund has been established with the American Diabetes Association.
