Area residents share Christmas wishes
The Christmas season is always a special time.
But with the possibility of impending war, this year the holidays take on an even more special meaning as family and friends gather to celebrate the season.
Every week until Christmas, the Marion County Record will gather your thoughts on the upcoming holidays. One question per week will be posed to various community members.
This week's question is:
If you could make one Christmas wish, who would it be for and why?
Bob Schmidt, retired Marion resident:
"Probably my wish would be for the President (Bush) and that he doesn't get us into any conflicts with Iraq over this weapons' issue."
Margaret Vinduska, Pilsen, senior citizen:
"My wish is that people would give plentifully to the Make-A-Wish Foundation because the cause is very deserving. They work with children who are terminally ill."
Mary Warren, assistant manager at Casey's General Store:
"My wish would be for my 12-year-old son to have a good Christmas. He's at that age where it still kind of matters. And I wish that it (Christmas) would be over already because there's always so much to do."
Mary Deane Peterson, Burdick, retired postal worker:
"Wendell's and my wish is that things would be better for our nation and the world. We wish everyone who believes would have Christ in Christmas. That is the most important thing."
Ed Belton, farmer, Tampa:
"I wish that the Kansas farmer could participate at the same level of income as the urban economies do and that urban people would understand what the farmer does to provide food for them."
Brenna Helmer, a student from Marion:
"I'd wish for money for my mother just to help her out because she's having some hard times. I wish I could make that wish come true."
Barbara Chavez, free-lance artist from Hillsboro:
"I guess my wish would be for my daughters and that they will be able to grow up with all I didn't have — a loving mother, father, stable home, good schooling — and not with the craziness I grew up with."
Nichole Gehrke, Lost Springs, 17 years old:
"I wish that everything in the world would be right and never any wrong, so that everyone could succeed in whatever they are doing."
Mary Ann Mille, Lincolnville, head cook at Centre Elementary School:
"My wish is for all people to have a heart of forgiveness, love, and good will for one another."
Peggy Cather, retired Marion resident:
"I'd make a wish for peace and goodwill to men. With the current world situation, things are kind of frightening."
Elva Holub, Lincolnville, senior citizen:
"My wish is for peace, health, happiness, and prosperity for people in all nations."
