Arnold Holt
Arnold Holt, 83, of Marion, died Aug. 8, 2006, at Newton Medical Center, Newton.
Born Feb. 21, 1923, at Atwood, he was the son of Herman and Fawn (Bowling) Holt.
He graduated from high school at Galva, Ill., in 1941. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He flew C-47 cargo planes from England to France. He was awarded the Purple Heart and was discharged as a first lieutenant in 1946.
On Aug. 9, 1952, he married Florence Silhan at Pilsen.
He worked in the aircraft manufacturing industry at Delavan and farmed in Marion County. He and his brother-in-law, Bob Silhan, started Bob and Arnie's Service in Marion and owned the Champlin Service Station for 25 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the VFW, DAV, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and Holy Family Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Vernon; and two sisters, Bertha and Patricia.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Ann Holt of Marion; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Robert Spear of Clarkesville, Ga., and Carol and Marshall Sealine of Marshalltown, Iowa; brother, Donald Holt of Liberal; sister, Vivian of Jackson, Mich.; and 11 grandchildren.
The rosary was recited Thursday evening at Holy Family Catholic Church, Marion.
A Mass of Christian burial was said Friday afternoon at Holy Family Catholic Church, Marion.
Burial with military honors presented by a Fort Riley honor guard was at Marion Cemetery.
Memorial funds have been established with St. Luke Hospital Foundation or Holy Family Parish of Marion County.
