Awards presented at annual FFA banquet

Marion/Florence FFA Chapter held its annual banquet Thursday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

More than 135 parents, members, and employers attended the banquet to recognize members for their activities during the year and present awards.

Sarah Regier received the Chapter Star Farmer award. Molly Holub received the Chapter Star in Agriculture Placement award. Danielle Cope was recognized as the Star Greenhand.

The honorary chapter FFA degree was presented to Kim Harms and Nancy Tharp. The honorary degree is the highest award the chapter gives to community members. It recognizes individuals for assisting the FFA chapter with activities throughout the year.

Appreciation certificates were presented to Straub International, Deer Trail Implement, Inc., Pat Ash, Kim Harms, Don Kraus, Marion Cooperative Grain and Supply, Animal Health Center of Marion County, and Michel Soyez.

Lucas Maddy, state FFA secretary, was the featured speaker. A Powerpoint slide show of the year's highlights was presented after the meal.

Chapter officers for 2004-05 were announced. They are Leann Thomas, president; Robyn Kukuk, vice president; Clayton Garnica, secretary; Danielle Cope, reporter; Braden Suffield, treasurer; and Adam Depler, sentinel.

Other awards presented were chapter proficiency awards: Brady May, agriculture mechanics repair and maintenance; Leann Thomas, equine science proficiency and beef production; Michelle Hulett, floriculture and horticulture; Ranell Schroeder, equine science proficiency; Haley Creamer, food science and technology; Sarah Regier, diversified crop production, feed grant production, fiber and/or oil crop production, diversified livestock production, and swine production.

Becky Tharp, forage production; Molly Holub, small animal production and care; John Whitwell, dairy production; Braden Suffield, emerging ag technology; Charlie Kenney, forest management, home and community development, and wildlife management; Trent Radtke, sheep production; and Adam Depler, forest management, outdoor recreation, and turfgrass management.

Special chapter awards were presented to Adam Depler for upperclassman record-keeping. Chapter sweepstakes awards were presented to Charlie Kenney, first; Leann Thomas, second; and Becky Tharp, third.
