I received a telephone call Wednesday from my cousin, Sylvia Eichroat of Mission, Texas, telling me her brother-in-law, Ralph Jones, died and his funeral would be Friday in Mission, Texas. Ralph was 94 years old.

Douglas Strecker of Hesston was at my place Saturday afternoon. We hadn't seen each other since Dec. 26 so we had a lot to talk about. He put up some electric fence and dropped some small alfalfa bales and put them on the main floor of the barn, making it easier for me to feed the cattle. He stayed for a chicken and rice supper.

Frances Stuchlik received a call from her brother, Joseph Holub of Haysville. He told her his wife, Trudy, had surgery at St. Joseph hospital and they found she has cancer and doesn't have long to live.

As I am writing this news, I can see the snowflakes falling. They say it is really icy the further one drives east. Mary Olson, president of Marion County Historical Society, called me and said it was icy in Marion. She may call off the meeting Tuesday morning at The Big Scoop and for me not to come. A friend of mine who lives in Emporia called this morning and said the streets and roads were really icy.
