Bernadine Horsman

Bernadine Horsman, 91, Herington, died Feb. 23, 2002 at Herington Municipal Hospital.

Born Aug. 15, 1910, in Herington, she was the daughter of John W. and Celia A. (Blancett) Jones.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at First Christian Church, Herington, with Pastor Lorenzo Jackson officiating. Burial was at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Horsman was a bookkeeper for a savings and loan in Baltimore, Md. From 1937 to 1970, and from 1970 until she retired in 1975 she worked with Civil Service in Kansas City as a record's keeper in the Claims Division. When she retired in 1975 she made her final move to Herington.

She graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1927, then attended Business College in Grand Island, Neb.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Herington, also served as caretaker of the church for many years, and was the church's organist in her earlier years.

She married J. Harold Horsman on May 1, 1933, in Herington. He died Nov. 3, 1959. She also was preceded in death by a brother J. Harold Jones on Jan. 11, 1997, and her parents.

She is survived by her son Leonard Horsman of Herington and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund has been established at the church.
