Better the second time around
Like a boomerang, I keep coming back. After a nearly six month absence, I am delighted to be back in Marion and working at the Marion County Record.
Sometimes you have to make tough personal decisions and this past year has been one of those years for me and my family.
The bottom line is my son Erik and I are once again Marion residents. He's attending Marion Elementary and was welcomed back by the friends and staff he met last school year. One thing about youth, they adjust quickly to change. And it's amazing how time flies. I just realized this week is his fourth week of school here. He only attended school out in western Kansas three weeks before we moved.
It was nice to be officially welcomed to the community this week with a welcome basket, presented by Melissa Parmley courtesy of the Marion Chamber of Commerce. When I connected utilities at the city office I was asked if I were interested in receiving one.
Well, of course. I like free stuff as much as the next person.
Anyhow, the welcome baskets are a nice touch and a great introduction to the community. I now have a plethora of pens and pencils, several coupons for discounts on goods and services, information about several Marion businesses, as well as a basket which I now use for apples, oranges, and bananas.
My compliments to the chamber.
As for us, sometimes you have to leave to really appreciate a place. I have found that especially to be true in my case.
It's good to be back.
