Beyond the arc

Sometimes I feel led to inform the public about events in my life I feel are important, and that I feel might have a bearing on the way you perceive me both as an individual and as a person.

I can hardly believe I have time to write this column this week, with everything going on in my life and that's really what I want to write about this week.

While my wife thinks I crazy, (and I'm sure more will too after they read this tale), I feel confident I can accomplish the tasks ahead of me, despite my crazy work load. So here's what's going on in my life.

I'm currently in a 60-hour high school observation under the wing of Marion's renowned English and forensics teacher Janet Killough.

Why would I be doing that, you might ask.

Well, many of you don't know that I'm trying to get my teaching certificate, and as a requirement, I'm doing an observation of Killough's classes in preparation for my student teaching, which begins in the spring at MHS.

On top of that, I've recently been named News Editor at the Hillsboro Star-Journal.

Now, if you're afraid that Marion sports will be dropped or neglected, think again. I took the Hillsboro position under the stipulation that I would retain my position as sports editor at the Marion County Record — something I'm very passionate about.

Even though, it is a little over a week away, I will begin my final semester of classes at Tabor College Sept. 1, 13 hours to be exact.

On the skinny side, I aid Tabor in the public relations department, a job I will be forfeiting Aug. 31.

But my work load may be at its highest in February with the eventual birth of a baby, mine to be exact. My wife and I are expecting a baby Feb. 14 — so I guess I have a little time before then.

So, there it is.

What does it take?

First, and most importantly, if you're married, you have to have an amazingly understanding spouse. Second, the nation's most caffeinated and sugar-filled soda pop. And finally, approximately four to five hours a night sleeping.

So, is it worth it? You bet. But if you see me at a football or volleyball game and I look a little tired and frazzled, at least you'll know why.
