Thoughts on
Ell Roberson, the Chiefs, and turning 27
I guess I'm getting to be an old codger.
But I simply cannot understand how Ell Roberson could have gotten hurt against McNeese State this weekend.
The Kansas State quarterback will be out "indefinitely" after injuring his non-throwing hand according to K-State officials.
What ever happened to the "tough guys?" What about those who just suck it up. I'm sure his hand hurts, but come on, McNeese State?
Before all of you K-Staters start blasting me for being a stater-hater, you should know that I'm cheering for the Cats. They have, or should I say, had a realistic shot at the national title this season.
And what about Bill Snyder's vague comments about Roberson's injuries and the time he might miss.
"How long that is going to be, I don't know," Snyder said Sunday. "It just remains to be seen, and that kind of depends on his progress. There is no time or day of the week or date set about when we might get him back."
So basically, you have no idea. Is that right, coach?
In other news, how 'bout those Chiefs?
Dick Vermeil's impact is becoming crystal clear. Not only do we have one of the best running backs in the league, we also may have one of the better offenses overall.
Trent Green was solid, and the defense is showing signs of playing this season. This may be KC's best chance to make the playoffs in the past 10 seasons.
A little less than a week ago, I turned 27. For many of you, that's just a bump in the road. For me, a HUGE dip. I can't believe how stinking old I am. I've watched as the past six or seven years of my life have flown by. The worst thing — I get even older everyday.
I'm starting to talk as if I've been on the earth for the past 100 years. Marion High School business teacher Lois Smith likes to use the expression, "before the earth cooled and the dinosaurs still roamed the earth," to describe aging. That's pretty serious talk.
I'm having difficulty gauging just how old I'm getting, but I guess you know you're old, when you start prefacing your columns, "I guess I'm getting to be an old codger."
