Beyond the arc

Four consecutive games. It seems almost unbelievable, but Dante Hall, of the Kansas City Chiefs, has returned a punt or kickoff for a touchdown in the last four games. And he hasn't had a bigger return for touchdown until this past Sunday as the Chiefs edged out the Broncos 24-23.

While he always seems to do things with style and glitz, this past weekend he did it in historic fashion, breaking the NFL's record for consecutive games with a touchdown on a punt or kickoff return.

Amazingly, Hall's humility has become as awe inspiring as his moves on the field.

After the game, Hall told reporters, "It was really simple," he said of the 93-yard-touchdown run that sealed the game for the Chiefs. "G-O-D. What can I say? I'm truly blessed right now," he added.

A week before, after his third consecutive touchdown, Hall also credited God for his amazing streak and openly praised his teammates as the reason for his successful run.

So when Sunday rolled around against the Broncos, I was skeptical on two levels — whether Hall would keep the streak alive, and whether or not Hall was sincerely humble.

I think it's safe to say, Hall reached more than an NFL record, he also reached thousands of fans through his humility.

Professional sports has been waiting patiently and attentively for an athlete like Hall.

NFL analysts said Monday that Hall has a legitimate shot at being the NFL's Most Valuable Player. No special-teams player has ever won the prestigious award.

I think Hall is already an MVP, at least to fans and his teammates. Not just for his unbelievable football footwork, but for his unbelievable demeanor in a professional field known for its egotism and lack of modesty.
