Bike Marion County set for Oct. 12 years ago
Bike Marion County, featuring three rides to benefit Communities In Schools, will be held Oct. 12.
The routes are "Bike" (10 miles, starting at 10:30 a.m.), "Marion" (35 miles, staring at 7:30 a.m.), and "County" (50 miles, starting at 7:30 a.m.
All begin and end at Cottonwood Point, Marion Reservoir, where shower and toilet facilities are available.
Registration fees include a commemorative T-shirt, snacks and rest stops on the long routes, and a free barbecue pork lunch. Fees are $40 per adult, $20 per child 14 and younger (must be accompanied by an adult), or $120 for teams of up to five members.
Those not riding can enjoy the lunch for $7. T-shirts are $12 in advance.
Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This is the first ride held by Communities In Schools. Funds raised go to maintain the organization and its programs, which focus on parenting, youth skills, and after-school programs for children.
Youths 14 and younger can raise additional funds through "Pedaling for Programs." Children who get $100 in donations can ride a route for free. Those who get $200 in donation receive free registration for themselves and an adult, and are eligible for various prizes.
