Biking Across Kansas route to stop in Marion
A repeat of the most-extensive bicycling event in Kansas history — a 500-mile ride across the entire breadth of the state — will begin on June 7.
Biking Across Kansas is an eight-day ride and originates at the Kansas-Colorado line with a choice of three routes. One thousand riders are anticipated for all or part of the weeklong event.
The middle route, known at the A Route, will start at the state line west of Syracuse. Participants' overnight stops will be in Garden City, Jetmore, Larned, Sterling, Marion, Madison, and Garnett.
This would make the Marion overnight stop on June 11.
The northern route will start west of Tribune and proceed through Ness City and Hoisington to McPherson, Lyndon and Garnett.
The southern route will start west of Johnson City and also end in Garnett.
On June 13, all the cyclists will unite in Garnett. The next morning all three routes will bike together to La Cygne, where a celebration dinner will be held. Many of the cyclists will be joined there by family and friends.
Many riders will be from Kansas, but there also will be participants from as far away as Virginia and California.
The main goal of BAK is to have fun, get some exercise and enjoy the beauty of Kansas.
