Bill Higgins
Billy Dan Higgins, 76, died Dec. 30, 2003, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, El Dorado.
Born Oct. 20, 1927, in Marion, he was the son of Boyd Victor and Hazel Alene (Jones) Higgins.
He grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On March 20, 1949, he married Georgia Christensen at Marion. The couple lived in El Dorado and also owned a home in Buena Vista, Colo.
He worked for Skelly and Getty refineries for more than 28 years before retiring.
Bill was a member and former deacon of First Christian Church. His hobbies included fishing and hunting and he was especially adept at making fishing lures.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Ethel Collett, Jessie Bowers, and Leona Helmer.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia of El Dorado; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Shari Higgins of Broken Arrow, Okla., Tom and Diana Higgins of Emporia, Rock and Kate Higgins of Denver, Colo., and Tracy and Michelle Higgins of El Dorado; two brothers, Boyd Higgins of Hutchinson and John Higgins of Topeka; four sisters, Hazel Selvy of Colorado Springs, Colo., Rosalene Stinchcomb of Marion, Sandra Dody of Wichita, and Karen Higgins Smith of Hutchinson; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at First Christian Church, El Dorado.
Burial was in Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, El Dorado.
Memorial funds have been established with the church and Hooked on Fishing for Kids.
