Bill Richmond

Harold "Bill" J. Richmond, 77, of Peabody died Nov. 1, 2003, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

Born Sept. 20, 1926, in rural Marion, he was the son of Joe A. and Elizabeth (Winkley) Richmond.

He attended New Hope School in Marion County until eighth grade then worked on his father's farm until he was 23 years old.

On Nov. 11, 1947, he married Cleta A. Frame in rural Marion County. They moved to Peabody in 1960.

He worked for Rhodes Construction and Grosse Construction as a heavy equipment operator. He also worked for the City of Peabody for many years as the water superintendent. He retired in 1989.

Bill enjoyed woodworking, watching baseball, and bowling. He co-owned the bowling alley for a number of years.

In 1982 Bill completed his GED. He and Cleta moved to Indian Guide Terrace in 2000 and Bill moved to Legacy Park in December 2002.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Ashlei rae Richmond; and a great-grandson, Austin Pierce.

Survivors include his wife, Cleta of Peabody; four sons, Paul Richmond of Lenexa, David Richmond of Newton, Edward Richmond of Wichita, and Charlie Richmond of Hutchinson; three daughters, Dinah Richmond of Peabody, Ruth Brooks of Cedar Point, and Nancy Conrad of Lake Mary, Fla.; a brother, Robert Richmond of Marion; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Tuesday morning at Prairie Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Jim Pohlman of the Peabody Christian Church officiating.

A memorial fund has been established with Indian Guide Terrace.
