Bina to address graduates at CHS

Chris Bina, a 1987 graduate of Centre High School, will be the speaker at commencement exercises Sunday at his alma mater.

Bina was fall homecoming king and received all-state football and all-star game honors his senior year. He is the son of Dean and Pat Bina of rural Marion.

Bina is a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS). He currently serves as director of pharmacy services for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He oversees delivery of pharmaceutical care to 110 correctional institutions. The system includes 190,000 inmates, 160 pharmacists, and an annual medication expenditure of approximately $60 million.

Bina received his B.S. in pharmacy from the University of Kansas in 1992 and earned a doctorate from Ohio Northern University in 2003.

After the events of Sept. 11, 200l, Bina was appointed to work groups which were established to develop major organizational and operational changes to expedite federal responses to national or man-made disasters.

During his 15-year PHS career, Bina has written numerous articles and given many presentations. He recently represented the more than 900 PHS pharmacists in a presentation at the 2007 American Pharmacists Association annual meeting in Atlanta, Ga.

He was promoted to commander in 2001 and captain in 2005 and has received many other awards, including USPHS Pharmacist of the Year in 2006.
