Blessings of friends and old age
Wouldn't you rather read in the paper, or see on TV, the news about dogs, than people blowing themselves and others to pieces? I would.
Now, there is Norman, a Beagle who disappeared from his home (I think in Solomon) and ended up a thousand miles away on the campus of Auburn University in Alabama. How did he do that?
I can see him, when he gets home with his doggie friends around him. He is sort of laid back in his easy chair with his feet propped up on the coffee table. He is smoking his meerschaum pipe and there's a soft drink on the table beside him. He begins — "Well, I'll tell you what happened. I was fooling around in our front yard when this big limousine drives up and stops. The liveried driver jumps out, grabs me by my collar, shoves me inside, and
Next comes horses. You remember the Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide? Now he has won the Preakness and is ready to take on the Belmont Stakes for the Triple Crown. It has been 25 years since a horse has won those three races — so go for it Funny Cide!
So much for dogs and horses. I just read a book, "The Secret of the Bees," by Sue Monk Kidd, a nice story about three black sisters who raise a young white girl. I like southern stories. They usually have a certain mystery about them. I learned a lot about bees, too.
