Blueberries increase brain power

Wait a minute. I have to take a deep breath, kick out all negative thoughts, and eat a blueberry. That's what Dr. Phil said on TV. That is supposed to bring your brain power up a few notches. He told about a young boy in school who was getting D's who did the above and began getting A's. He claimed he could potty-train a small child in one day. He gave a demonstration and said it worked. He has written a book, "Family First," which gives advice on how to handle all sorts of family problems. He is good.

I might have been a better mother if I had had a book like that to give me help.

Things sometimes got pretty crowded in our one-bathroom house. Sometimes my husband would be shaving, the toddler would be on the potty-chair, an older child on the big potty, and another one in the tub. It seemed all right at the time and it was.

My mother would place a wash tub near the big pot-bellied stove and pour warm water in it and everyone would get a bath (in the same water, I think).

After that we would put on our long underwear, long black stockings tucked into the top of our high top shoes. No slacks or pants then. We girls wore below-the-knees long skirts of wool in the wintertime. Red stocking caps on our heads and woolen scarves around our necks. With tin lunch pails filled with fried egg sandwiches, an apple, and cookie, off we went to our country school. It seemed like at least a three mile walk.
