Board appreciates public input

Further discussion, board action will be taken at regular meeting

By GERALD "GERRY" HENDERSON

USD 408 Superintendent of Schools

My thanks to all USD 408 patrons who provided input March 16 to the board of education. The task of reducing expenditures to match expected revenues is a difficult one, especially when more than 80% of our budget is for people. The board is appreciative of all the information provided by the public.

The board is anxious to finish the business begun March 16 so that affected people can make plans for the future. While thought has been given to scheduling a special meeting to deal with staff reductions for next year, the board has not been able to find an evening when all members are available.

The board could hold a noon meeting, as it often does, but noon meetings preclude attendance by patrons and staff who might want to witness the board discussion and vote.

Therefore, further discussion and board action on staff reductions will occur at the regular meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. April 12. The meeting again will be held in the middle/high school commons.
