Centre High School Cougars faced a tough opponent Friday in a game with Wakefield. They lost, 36-22.

The Cougars had a difficult time getting anywhere in the first quarter and were blown away, 20-0.

They strengthened their defense in the second quarter, only allowing the Bombers one touchdown.

In one set of plays, Dustin Burnett caught a pass and traveled 40 yards before he was stopped. The Cougars continued to complete first downs and advanced to the 15-yard line.

However, they were not able to go any farther and turned the ball over on downs.

With 1:05 remaining in the half, Tad Remy ran the ball in for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good, making the half-time score 28-6.

The Cougars garnered another touchdown at 7:07 in the third quarter with a completed pass from Seth Jirak to Burnett at Wakefield's four-yard line. The touchdown and two extra points made the score 28-14.

Wakefield came back with another touchdown and two extra points before Burnett caught a long pass and ran to the three-yard line. Jirak ran in for a touchdown and Bryant Gutsch scored the extra points, to close the gap to 36-22 with 10 minutes remaining in the game.

Remy intercepted the ball on the next Wakefield possession, but it was intercepted in turn by Wakefield.

The Bombers failed to score. As the game wound down, the Cougars advanced to the one-yard line with just minutes to go. The Wakefield defensive line held them on four tries at rushing the line, and the game ended with the score remaining 36-22.
