Book chain set for June 9
About 300 volunteers are needed June 9 for a book chain, library officials announced Tuesday.
The chain will be from 2 to 3 p.m. between the current library on Santa Fe and the new library south of Marion County Courthouse.
Volunteers will pass books, one at a time, from the old library to the new one.
It isn't expected that all books will be moved at this time. The chain is designed to build excitement and ownership in the new facility. All ages are welcome to participate.
Remaining materials will be trucked to the new library. The current library will close after the transfer and remain so until the new library opens in July.
Those interested in helping are asked to call the library.
"We've had so many people ask us to contact them when we were ready to do the chain, that we've decided to do it," said Janet Marler, librarian. "The new library won't be ready, but if we wait too long, we get into harvest."
