Bowers brings home first-place medal

Luke, Rhonny, and Mary Beth Bowers were at the middle school wrestling meet in Strong City Friday and Luke brought home a first place medal, making him undefeated in his weight division for this year. Congratulations, Luke! Steven Bowers is skiing with friends in Colorado during spring break. Mary Beth, Greg, Rhonny, and Luke attended the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Andy Holt Sunday afternoon at the Pilsen church.
Jackie Hett spent the weekend in Kansas City with the Pizza Hut bowling team at the state tournament.
Beth Collett hosted a coffee for the Middle Creek ladies Thursday morning honoring Sharon Matz on her birthday. Guests were Maggie Matz, Evelyn Matz, Janet Matz, and Lorene Smith. Elizabeth Gravenstein, a student at KSU spent Friday night with Howard and Beth. They took her to Wichita Saturday morning where she caught a plane home to Nevada City, Calif., to spend spring break. Kathy Winter and Amanda from Wellington, Colo., were Saturday evening supper guests of the Colletts. Howard and Beth were in Newton Sunday at the home of Larry and Shirley Brooks for a wedding shower for Daniel and Nikki Brooks.
Roseva McLinden went to the graveside services for Wilbert Rindt in Marion Thursday. Saturday morning, she attended the funeral services for Irene Elisha at the Catholic church in Florence. Burial was in the Burns cemetery. Roseva attended the Florence Senior Center dinner on Friday.
Rita and Ray Kraus accompanied Ralph and Wanda Richmond to the St. Patrick's Day dinner at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Strong City Sunday. This is an annual event where they serve a traditional Irish meal of corned beef cabbage, etc. Don and Vickie Kraus and Nick also attended the dinner.
L.Dena Goertz was released Wednesday from her doctor following her recent surgery. Cy and she drove to Wichita in all that fog Wednesday morning. They drove to Wichita again Friday through fog to her regular four-month appointment with her doctor at the Wichita Clinic. Her regular doctor was surprised to hear of all she had been through since he had seen her and was glad all went well.
Edmund Steiner celebrated his 87th birthday in his home Sunday with dinner guests Vicki Smolik, Dennis and Mary Steiner, Terry and Deanna Steiner, David and Teresa Steiner and Amber, Terry and Kristina Allen and Miranda, and Kristina's brother. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ehlers took Edmund and Vicki to Salina Monday for dinner at Coyote Canyon to celebrate his birthday.
Janelle and Doug Paden, Matthew and Jonathan enjoyed dinner at Florence Sunday with Shirley and David Bowers. Shirley attended UMW at Eastmoor on Wednesday.
Janet Keazer and Margaret Ireland hosted Eastmoor UMW Wednesday afternoon. We had a speaker from Wichita who told us about the Urban Ministries Health program.
Jeannine Bateman was in Wichita Saturday with Hazel Bertram. They took in the new mall on Maize road. On the way home, Jeannine stopped in Newton to visit her mother, Alvina Skibbe.
Leon Hayen spent Friday and Saturday with John and Dorothy Hayen. Margaret O'Neal came on Tuesday with lunch to visit Dorothy and John. The O'Neals are building a new home in Junction City where they will be closer to David's mother.
Michelle Lopez, Sunny and Rae Mona Herman, and Tim Herman and his family were weekend visitors of the Greg Davidsons. They were here to see the high school play, "Cheaper by the Dozen," in which Sarah Davidson played a part. Rachel Davidson and Christine Schwartz were in the forensic tournament at Centre on Thursday.
Marie Navrat and Jane Makovec went to Florence Friday for Harvest House. Shelly Ratzloff had lunch with Marie Navrat on Sunday.
Roy and Rose Olive Hett, Shirley and David Bowers, and Margaret Ireland visited Eleanor Davidson at St. Luke Hospital Friday afternoon. She had been there since Tuesday and was hoping to go home soon.
Sunday dinner guests at my house were Marj and Joe Johnson, Emily and Ethan. The kids are enjoying spring break and Joe spent the afternoon getting my computer worked over and connected to a new printer. I should be hooked up to color now and will enjoy that. Nancy Ireland gave me a quilting program that needed color to get the best from and now I should be able to print my own greeting cards.
