Bud McLinden
V. L. "Bud" McLinden, 87, died Dec. 22, 2002, at Marion Manor Rehabilitation Center in Marion.
He was a well known Marion County rancher.
Born April 1, 1915, at Cedar Point, he was the son of the late John J. and Katherine (Flueler) McLinden.
He was married to Roseva Melson of Burns on April 8, 1940, at Florence. She survives at the home.
Bud was a rancher and livestock caretaker all his life. He and Roseva lived on the ranch north of Florence for 59 years, moving to Marion in 1999 but he continued to oversee the ranching operation.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Church of Holy Family Parish, the Knights of Columbus, Kansas Livestock Association, Kansas Quarter Horse Association, and was a founding member of Cottonwood Valley Saddle Horse Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Col. John and Katherine McLinden; and two brothers, John and Ed.
Survivors include his wife, Roseva; son Richard L. "Dick" McLinden, Marion; sister, Lucille C. McLinden of Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren, Charles "Chuck" McLinden of Marion and Susan C. Morton of Olathe; and four great-grandchildren.
Father Steve Gronert officiated at services held Thursday at St. Patrick Church in Florence with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, there.
Memorial funds have been established in his name with the parish, the church, American Cancer Society, and Flint Hills Girl Scout Council.
