Phillip Klenda is volunteering his time and labor to construct walls for a safe room in the community building under construction at Lincolnville.
He also will do brick work on the front of the building after it is erected.
Klenda grew up in rural Lincolnville, the son of Val and Julie Klenda. After graduating from Centre High School, he attended Beloit Technical College.
He studied carpentry for one year, then switched to masonry and became a certified mason.
He said he likes masonry because he can create more designs with it than wood.
He works with a private masonry contractor in Hutchinson. They constructed two buildings at the state fairgrounds and also a school at Clearwater.
Klenda recently constructed the Tampa High School memorial at Tampa. He hopes to have his own business someday.
