A new restaurant soon will be open for business in Burns. Buffalo Gulch Ranchhouse, a Class B private club, will open in mid-July.
Operating three nights a week, the club will offer nightly specials and traditional fare.
Laurie Mann, proprietor, who lives in Rosalia with her husband Bill, brings 22 years of restaurant experience to the Ranchhouse.
"I've managed food businesses in Colorado, Kansas, Texas, and New Mexico," stated Mann, "but I've always wanted to do my own thing. I'm really excited to have the chance to do it in the Burns community. Everyone has been so nice and easy to work with."
Presently, Steve Waite of Community National Bank is the owner of the building that will house the Ranchhouse. Formerly the Double S/S Saloon, the building is being remodeled to accommodate the new restaurant.
Better lighting and heating, extensive work on the front steps and sidewalk, and leveling the floor throughout the structure are some of the improvements being made.
The Ranchhouse will feature specials each night, along with traditional food such as chicken fried steak.
The Ranchhouse will serve authentic Mexican food from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursdays. Mann stresses it will be authentic Mexican because she spent a great deal of time in New Mexico. The Ranchhouse will feature seafood selections from 4 to 10 p.m. Fridays. Prime rib will be the house specialty from noon to 10 p.m. Saturdays.
The Ranchhouse also will tempt the diner's sweet tooth with homemade desserts. The sweets will be available in full servings or in special "one bite" orders. For those who want a drink with dinner, beer and wine will be available.
One special event is planned for the Ranchhouse in the near future, possibly Labor Day weekend. Local ranchers may bring their branding irons and burn their brand into a plaque that will hang above the front entrance of the Ranchhouse.
Mann is looking forward to opening the doors July 18, if everything goes according to plan. She is looking for employees and hopes the construction phase of the project will soon be over.
