Bruce and Alona Hedstrom recently returned from an Alaskan cruise and tour of the Northwest and Yellowstone National Park Sept. 14-28. On the first day of their trip, they flew into Seattle, Wash., and took an evening tour of the city.
They enjoyed a bus trip through the Cascade Mountains to Vancouver, British Columbia, where they boarded the Holland America ship. They cruised through the scenic inside passage and were the port of Juneau where they enjoyed a sled dog adventure.
The next day they docked at Skagway, then were taken by motor coach into Yukon Territory, then back to Fraser, B.C., where they boarded the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad for the return trip to Skagway.
They took a scenic cruise of Glacier Bay National Park, and docked at Ketchikan, followed by a visit to Saxman Native Village and Totem Park. The cruise concluded with a trip through the inside passage and a return to Vancouver.
They traveled by motor coach through the Cascade Mountains and Minter Gardens, then on to Spokane, Wash., and a stop at Grand Coulee Dam.
In northern Idaho, they stopped at Lake Coeur d'Alene, then on to Wallace, Idaho, silver capital of the world.
They spent two days visiting Yellowstone National Park viewing hot springs, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Norris Geyser Basin, and Old Faithful.
The next stop was a tour of Grand Teton National Park and an overnight stay at Jackson Hole, Wyo.
From there they traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah, to visit the Mormon Square. This was a special night as the Tabernacle Choir sang for the president of the Czech Republic and a group of World War II veterans.
On their final day, they toured more of Mormon Square before their flight back to Wichita.
Gary and Marilyn Hageberg went to Manhattan Sunday after church to visit her sister, Carol Dutton who had knee surgery two weeks ago and was having some problems with recuperation. They went out to lunch together at noon and were joined by Carol's son, Terry of Manhattan. Keep Carol in your thoughts and prayers as she recuperates.
The card club met Sept. 30 at the Golden Age activity room with Bonnie Sill as co-hostess. Others there were Ruth Riggin, Earl and Lois Peterson, Lee and Elinor Remy, Linnea Barlow, Vic and Helen Brunner, Ken and Alice Peterson, and Clarence Stehrke.
Julie Sader of Salina visited Ruth Riggin Satuday morning. They had lunch together at Al's Café in Lost Springs.
Sabrina Dunkin and Logan of Rose Hill and Nanette Forsberg were Tuesday afternoon visitors of Evelyn Forsberg.
Darlene Gutsch took Gayla and Jeff Deines, Shelby and Justin out for supper at Al's Café in Lost Springs Wednesday evening. This was to celebrate Gayla's October birthday.
Thursday afternoon visitors of Mary Deane Peterson were Chelsea Cowart and Maureen Peterson. Scott Peterson and Lindsey Weakley of El Dorado were Thursday evening visitors.
Harry Schump was a Sunday dinner guest of Evelyn Forsberg. Joe Forsberg of Salina was a Sunday evening visitor.
Members of Corlberg-Smith Legion and Auxiliary and members of Tampa and Lincolnville legions met Saturday afternoon at the Burdick Legion hall for the annual coffee tour. Three American Legion officers and two auxiliary officers, Karen Smith, president, and Dorothy Gallaway, historian, were present to conduct the meetings. Discussions included events and goals for 2008, membership dues, and a question and answer period. Dues cards for auxiliary members have not been mailed yet, but dues are $10 and can be paid to the treasurer. Light refreshments were served.
Mike and Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan of Council Grove were Saturday evening visitors of Evelyn Forsberg.
Nancy and Jack Riggin and Earl Peterson were Sunday afternoon visitors of Neva Peterson.
Whitney Gutsch of Herington spent Saturday afternoon with Darlene Gutsch. Perry Gutsch picked her up when he got off work. Perry Gutsch visited Darlene Gutsch Sunday noon and went to the Gutsch cousins reunion for a short time before he had to go to work.
Jean Brunner of Ramona and Mike Carlson were Sunday afternoon visitors of Charles and Arlene Carlson.
Darlene Gutsch attended the Gutsch cousins reunion Sunday at the Burdick Legion hall. Fifity-nine relatives attended the basket dinner. Those who came the farthest were David Oliver of Santa Barbara, Calif., son of Neva Joyce Fischer of Wichita, Jason and Lacey Gottstein, Jalyn, Katie, Lance, and Jared of Powell, Ohio, son of Ray and Linda Gottstein of McPherson, and Norma Field of Pace, Fla., daughter of the late Bill and Ruth Krause. All of the Gutsches had family represented except Paul, George, and Bertha. A Kohlman cousin, Virginia (Kohlman) Pennington of Ottawa attended.
Josie Peterson and Chelsea Cowart spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mary Deane Peterson.
Burdick senior citizens will meet at noon Friday. The program will be two foreign exchange students attending school at White City, Jochen Wolf of Germany and Joonas Rehend of Astonia, which is near Russia, hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fiest.
Ruth Riggin and Helen Sader visited Lyal and Julie Sader Sunday at Salina. They all enjoyed dinner out at noon.
