Burdick: Community prepares for 33rd annual Labor Day celebration years ago

Burdick Council of Clubs met Monday evening at the legion shelter house with 12 members present to finalize plans for Labor Day weekend. Publicity posters were completed and sent to be posted in other area towns. Portable toilets will be on the grounds this year. We will have a workday Sept. 3 to complete last minute details.

Make plans to enter a family float in the Burdick Labor Day parade. The them is "Show Your Family Pride." Prizes will be awarded for winning floats in that category.

Practice for the community choir began Wednesday. They will practice each Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hebron Lutheran Church. The choir will perform for the community church service Labor Day weekend at Burdick tennis court.

Morgan Rickenbrode of Council Grove was a Tuesday overnight guest and Wade Rickenbrode stayed from Tuesday through Saturday with Earl and Evelyn Forsberg.

Dean Forsberg and Mike and Jane Rickenbrode of Council Grove were Wednesday evening visitors of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg. Morgan returned home with her parents.

Theresa Hageberg and Kenny Roberts of Topeka came Aug. 7 to pick up Phillip Hageberg to take him home. He had spent a few days visiting Mike and Denice Hageberg, Steven and Trevor and Gary and Marilyn Hageberg.

Harry Schump of Herington was a Friday evening visitor and Sunday dinner guest of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg. Linnea Barlow was a Sunday evening visitor.

Jack and Nancy Riggin spent a few days in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the Broadmoor Resort attending the Kansas Bankers Association convention. Nancy's brother of Sublette was installed as the president of the KBA for 2006.

Charles Gutsch attended the bucket calf show at Marion County Fair Thursday evening at Hillsboro. His grandson, Justin Deines had a calf in the show.

Mike and Jane Rickenbrode and Morgan were Saturday evening visitors of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg. Wade returned home with his parents.

Richard and Angela Basore, Rebekah, Allison, Katrina, Matthew, and Gorgelos and grandfather Francis George of Lost Springs were Sunday afternoon guests of Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson.

David Ford of Alabaster, Ala., was a Tuesday overnight guest of Gary and Marilyn Hageberg.

Several women from Hebron Lutheran Church went to the Synod convention — Women of WELCA from Friday through Sunday at Topeka. Attending were Jewell Swinney, Nancy Hanson, Alona Hedstrom, and Gloria Martin.

Marilyn Hageberg was a Tuesday lunch guest of Shirley Miller. Goldie Steeley of Salina and her two nieces from Salina and Enterprise also were guests. An afternoon visitor was Paula, a friend of Shirley, of Wichita.

Garth Strand and family of Buhler spent Sunday with Irvin and Audine Strand.

Morgan and Wade Rickenbrode and Savannah and Ethan Forsberg were Wednesday dinner guests of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg.

Forrest and Marie Anderson visited Thursday afternoon with his sister, Maurine Johnson at Via Christi Rehabilitation Center at Wichita.

Josie Peterson of Lincolnville was a Thursday and Friday guests of Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson.

Gary and Marilyn Hageberg attended the businessmen's picnic Friday evening at Marion County Fair at Hillsboro. They went to the demolition derby Saturday evening. Their daughter-in-law, Jackie Hageberg of Hillsboro, participated in the event.
