Callahan Band promises to put on memorable show

Three "good ol' boys" from central Kansas met, formed a band, and now will perform as The Callahan Band during this year's Chingawassa Days.

It's the story of two Burns boys who share a love of music.

Jason Callahan played guitar and sang in clubs as a one-man show. In the summer of 2005, Aaron Waddell, of Marion, joined Callahan on bass and with vocals.

Along came drummer Kenton Ashcraft of Kingman, who joined the duo in October 2005.

The trio plays some classic country but has an interest in "underground" country. Basically, they play songs with a "good ol' boy" feel to it.

"We like a lot of old standards as well as the newer country," Waddell said.

Don't expect to hear top 40 songs but rather popular songs that may not have made it to the charts.

"We respect the legends of yesterday but like to play songs of those who are true to their music," Wadell said.

Fans can expect a high energy show by entertainers, "not just some guys singing a song," said Wadell.

Two members of the Greenhorns Band, Rollin Schmidt and Kim Schmidt, will join the trio for the performances.

The band is scheduled to open for Trick Pony June 2 and may perform June 1, after the Elvis competition, if time permits.
