Candidate filing deadline is Jan. 27 years ago

Candidates for Marion mayor and two Hillsboro council positions need to file by noon Jan. 27 to be on the spring ballot.

Candidates for city positions should file with the appropriate city clerk. Candidates for county positions should file with the Marion County Clerk.

Two Hillsboro City Council positions from wards one and two are currently being held by Shelby Dirks and Byron McCarty respectively. Eloise Mueller is currently in the position of mayor of the Marion City Commission.

The Hillsboro council positions are two-year terms and the Marion mayor position is a three-year term.

The general election for these candidates will be April 6. The primary election, if necessary, will be March 2.

The fall election encompasses many more candidates countywide.

County commission positions from districts two and three are up for election with the county attorney, sheriff, clerk, treasurer, and register of deeds.

Currently, the positions are filled by the following: Howard Collett, county commissioner district two; Leroy Wetta, county commissioner district three; Susan Robson, county attorney; Lee Becker, sheriff; Carol Maggard, clerk; Jeannine Bateman, treasurer; and Faye Makovec, register of deeds.

All positions are four-year terms.

The fall primary election will be Aug. 3 with the general election being Nov. 2. The deadline for the fall primary is June 10.
