Carl Swayze

Carl Edward Swayze, 78, son of Harry and Pearl Ann (Hann) Swayze, was born Sept. 24, 1923, at Parsons.

He died Feb. 18, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita. He had one brother and three sisters.

He entered the United States Army May 15, 1951, and served until Aug. 7, 1952.

On Jan. 4, 1954, he was united in marriage to Betty Henson in Mount Home, Ark. The couple had one son and four daughters.

Swayze spent most of his life as a truck driver and a mechanic. In 1966 he moved to California and lived there until 1990 when he retired and moved back to Kansas.

Survivors include his spouse, Betty, of the home; son, Larry of Lincolnville; four daughters, Glenda Perz of Fresno, Calif., Carol Williams, Nancy Morrison, and Carla Adams, all of Madera, Calif.; one brother, Harold Swayze of Parsons; four sisters, Ethal Simmons of Belle Plaine; Mary Dietche of California, and Lorene Swayze of Utah; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Friday afternoon at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion with the Rev. Marilyn Cox officiating. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace" were sung by vocalist Madonna Schafers, accompanied by organist Charlene Svitak.

Casket bearers were Brendon Hurt, David Williams, Eric Williams, Justin Morrison, Andre Ebaben, and Julian Stetnish.

A military tribute was presented by the United States Air Force honor guard of McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita.

Burial was the Lincolnville Cemetery.
