Carroll Shields

Carroll Jay Shields, 50, Lincolnville, died Aug. 10, 2003, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, from injuries received July 13 in a farm accident.

He was born Feb. 17, 1953, at Hillsboro, the son of Fred and Virginia (Brunner) Shields.

He was baptized March 22, 1953, at the Lutheran church in Lincolnville and confirmed there May 14, 1967.

He was raised on the family farm east of Lincolnville. After graduating from Centre High School in 1971 he earned a degree in vocational agriculture at Beloit Vo-Tech and returned to work on the family farm.

He was married to Kim Shannon April 28, 1984, at Herington United Methodist Church. They had five children.

The family enjoyed boating, water skiing, and camping.

He was a lifetime resident of the Lincolnville community, member of St. John's Lutheran Church, served as president of Centre Young Farmers organization, treasurer of Middle Creek Watershed, was ag-representative to Marion County Extension Council, and was a leader in Webelos and 4-H.

He enjoyed farming and livestock, soil conservation, mechanical work, carpentry, and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Kim, of the home; his parents, Fred and Virginia Shields of Lincolnville; children, Gavin, Heath, Allison, Brenna, and Carissa, all of the home; two brothers, Kenneth of Lincolnville and Glenn and his wife, Marcia, of Big Rock, Ill.; four sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles, and many cousins and friends.

A memorial service was held Aug. 13 at Eastmoor United Methodist church in Marion with the Rev. John Goering officiating.

The funeral service was held Thursday morning at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lincolnville, with Pastor Alan Stahlecker presiding.

Vocalists were Jean, Amy, and Jill Brunner. Lynley Remy was the organist.

Casket bearers were Kent Brunner, Lucas Carlson, Eric Carlson, Kevin Shields, Tracy Brunner, Byron Shields, Glenn Roth, and Russell Shields.

Honorary bearers were Bill Broce, Lauren Brunner, Emerson Shields, Scott Shields, Fred Silhan, and John Dyck.

Burial was in Lewis Cemetery, Ramona.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.
