Celebrations are abundant
I noticed a write-up about the River Festival in Salina this weekend. I went to it once. It is a huge production. They always have a lot of bands, craft booths, and art displays. Art is their big thing. They have a permanent, strong art council and are active the year around. In fact, their display is considered one of the best in Kansas.
Wichita has just had its River Festival. It drew big crowds, too. It seems that every town or city has a celebration especially if they are situated on a river. I used to think Marion could do that, but when they did away with our bridge, they did away with our river.
I remember that even in the villages in Switzerland a big deal was made of bringing the cows in from the mountains. They would be wearing beautiful flowers and tinkling bells. Anything for a celebration!
Right here is Marion County we have Florence with Labor Day fun, Peabody with a Fourth of July celebration and fireworks, Hillsboro with the county fair and huge art show, and Marion with Art in the Park, Old Settlers, and now Chingawassa Days. Lincolnville has its Octoberfest and even the little town of Ramona, with the help of the California girls, manages several celebrations.
One of the cutest parades I ever saw was a pet parade — birds, turtles, dogs, and even llamas.
Maybe we could go to a parade every day — wouldn't that be fun!
