Centre approves $3.7 million budget

The board of education of Centre USD #397 approved Monday a 2005-06 budget totaling $3,701,022, as published.

The action was taken at a special meeting which opened with a budget hearing. No patrons attended the hearing.

General fund expenditures are capped at $2,493,325. The supplemental general fund, known as the local option budget (LOB), will produce an additional $385,000 in revenue.

Total mills levied were 43.124 compared to 46.619 the previous year. However, the district's assessed valuation rose $741,818 from the previous year, producing an overall increase in local revenue.

Latest enrollment figures stand at 297, with a full-time equivalency of 287. Official enrollment will be determined Sept. 20.

The board approved a $4,000 raise for the superintendent for the 2005-06 contract year, to $84,000.

Cody Schafer was employed as a full-time K-4 classroom aide with a compensation of $7.75 per hour. Schafer also is assistant boys' basketball coach. He is a graduate of Tabor College.

The board accepted the resignation of Melissa Zieammermann, who was employed during the 2004-05 school year as a part-time custodian.

Mary Hewitt was employed as part-time custodian for 4.5 hours per week at $7.25 per hour.

The board holds its meetings at the Centre High School library unless otherwise announced.
