Centre boys place third at Council Grove
Centre girls' and boys' track teams took second place behind the host team April 22 at the Marion Quint track meet.
The 14 girls racked up 122 points compared to 144 by Marion. The 12 boys garnered 96.5 points, behind Marion's 187.5.
Top placers among the boys were Todd Stahlecker in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.43; and Aaron Barney in the long jump with a leap of 19'5 3/4".
Mark Pagenkopf was the only entrant in pole vault. His best height was 12'.
In girls' action, Laura Klenda continues to lead in javelin. She took first place with a throw of 96'8".
Raschelle Jirak placed first in discus and shot put with throws of 98'5" and 34'2", respectively.
On the track, Kathleen Meek won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 54.08 seconds. She also won the 100m dash with a run of 14 seconds.
Sophomore Jill Fenske placed first in the 200-meter dash at 29.68. She also bested four competitors in the long jump, with her best leap ever of 14'10 1/2".
Dani Hatfield led in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:49.98. Jackie Klenda won the 400m dash at 1:08.08. Both girls are freshmen.
The 4x100m relay team of J. Klenda, Krista Heiser, Fenske, and Meek, beat Marion. Times were not reported.
