Centre boys take second

Five of the 13 members of the Centre High School boys' track team had first-place finishes April 17 at Fairfield. The team finished in second place with 81 points, behind Fairfield's 95.
Other competing teams were Moundridge, Canton-Galva, and Inman.
Nick Cole won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 5 1/4 inches, his best showing of the season.
Seth Jirak once again showed his stuff in the shot put and discus, finishing first in both events. His 45-9 finish in shotput was more than a foot farther than in the previous track meet. He threw the discus 138-2, compared to 135-10 previously.
Alfonse Klenda topped javelin competition with a throw of 149-3, matching his previous best throw this season.
Kevin Mueller won the 1600-meter run with a time of five minutes, 24 seconds. James Weber's winning high jump mark was 5-5 1/2, his best this season.
A 4x400m relay team of Bryant Brunner, Nick Cole, Brandon Albrecht, and Kevin Mueller placed second with a time of 4:12.38.
Brittany Owens was the only girl to win an event. She recorded a javelin throw of 108-1, almost 18 feet farther than previously.
The 4x100m relay team of Samantha Seifert, Shelby Deines, Carlye Simons, and Kylie Burhoop finished in second place with a time of 57.23.
The nine-member team finished in fifth place.
