Centre Cougars lose to St. John's Military

Friday turned out to be a bad night for the Centre High School Cougars. They were defeated by St. John's Military in Salina by a score of 67-57.
Centre boys had a good first half and led by nine points at halftime, 37-28.
However, a 22-point run by St. John's in the third quarter compared to nine points by Centre put St. John's ahead by four points. A 17-11 scoring advantage for St. John's in the fourth quarter led to the Cougars' 10-point loss.
Todd Stahlecker had three treys in the first half but failed to sink any in the second half. However, he completed a total of six two-point goals and four of five free-throws to lead scoring with 25 points. Travis Burns also scored in double digits with 12 points. He had 12 rebounds.

The junior varsity defeated St. John's, 52-36. After being down by one, 9-8, at the end of the first quarter, a 12-3 run by the Cougars in the second quarter gave them a 20-12 lead at halftime.
They continued to outscore their opponent, 16-12 and 16-12, in the final two quarters of the game to win by 16 points.
Alfonse Klenda led scoring with 13 points. Scott Peterson and Tad Remy contributed nine points each, followed by Lance Diepenbrock with seven.
Other scorers were Seth Jirak, five; Thien Antoszyk, four; Jimmy Cheever and Kevin Mueller, two each; and Trent Hajek, one.
