Centre FFA greenhands take first in dairy events
Centre FFA had a successful day Nov. 19 at the South Central District and Earl Wineinger Invitational Dairy and Cattle Judging contests in Hillsboro.
The freshman team finished first overall, with five of the top 10 individuals. Brian Burhoop finished first, Cole Svoboda third, Tori Marler fifth, Amanda Floyd ninth, and Tanner Brunner 10th.
Other freshman judgers were Adam Matz, Ripley Howard, Tyler Klenda, Ben Baker, Casey Kristek, and Rustyn Kerbs.
The remaining A-team members were Brandon Albrecht, Jared Diepenbrock, and Ryan Richmond.
Dairy foods
The dairy foods contest involved tasting milk for flavor and quality, identifying cheeses, distinguishing natural and artificial dairy products, and several other components of dairy production.
The freshman team finished first, with Cole Svoboda finishing first individually and Brian Burhoop fourth. Svoboda had the best score of all the contestants, including seniors and greenhands.
Other freshmen competitors were Tori Marler, Ben Baker, Amanda Floyd, Adam Matz, Ripley Howard, Tyler Klenda, and Casey Kristek.
The senior A-team of Brandon Albrecht, Savik Howard, Kristine Jirak, and Ryan Richmond placed fourth.
The senior B-team consisted of Tanner Brunner, Ben Baker, and Jared Diepenbrock. As a freshman competing with upper-level students, Brunner finished sixth overall.
