Centre FFA members honored at state convention

Tyler Diepenbrock, Lincolnville, won the Kansas Star Farmer in Placement award at the state FFA convention held May 28-31 in Manhattan.

Diepenbrock was featured in the April 17 issue of the Marion County Record. He was the South Central FFA District Star Farmer in placement and competed with six other district winners to claim the state award.

He received a plaque and a check for $300. His parents, Gary and Pam Diepenbrock, received Kansas State FFA honorary membership.

Diepenbrock also received a state FFA degree along with Jenna Tajchman and Dustin Suffield.

Maria Jirak received a $1,000 national scholarship.

Centre's Parliamentary Procedures team placed third in a contest with 30 other teams. Members were Derek Belton, Tajchman, Kristin Mueller, Cecilia Rziha, Natalie Carlson, and Andrea Carlson.

Mueller placed sixth in a job interview contest.

Centre's Agricultural Business Management team was recognized for winning the state contest and will represent Kansas this fall at the national contest. Team members are N. Carlson, Tajchman, Jirak, and Rziha.

Carlson and Suffield participated in the state FFA band. Carlson played the piano and clarinet and Suffield played percussion. The band performed before the Friday evening general session.

Belton and Mueller served as chapter delegates to business sessions. Other members attending were Laura Klenda and Josh Spooner.
