Centre freshmen place first at district school

Several freshmen from the Centre FFA chapter took first place in events at the South Central District FFA Leadership School Nov. 14 at Moundridge High School.

Jackie Klenda placed first out of 29 participants in the creed-speaking contest. She will compete in the state contest at the state convention in May. Drew Donahue placed ninth. In addition to speaking the creed, they answered questions directly related to it.

Twelve teams participated in the freshman division of the parliamentary procedure contest.

A team from Centre took first place. They were Steven Hageberg, Jackie Klenda, Drew Donahue, Bryant Gutsch, Jeremy Kristek, and Tad Remy.

A second freshman team placed fifth. They were Josh Ryff, Jennifer McCafferty, Joseph Stroda, Gavin Shields, Nick McCafferty, and Dawnyelle Rose.

The Centre officer team placed third in the same event in the senior division. Team members were Derek Belton, Kristin Mueller, Cecilia Rziha, Andrea Carlson, Shaina Makovec, Josh Spooner, and alternate Nathan Brunner.

The event encourages students to learn to effectively participate in a business meeting and assists in development of leadership skills.

Kristin Mueller was selected to the Master Ritual team for her oral presentation as vice president in the opening ceremony performed by Centre FFA officers. Fifteen schools participated in this event.
