Centre girls bested by Bennington, White City

Centre High School girls remained on the downside of a slippery slope in league play, falling this past week to Bennington and White City. They ended their regular season with a disappointing record of six wins, 14 losses.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Cougars, 54-38, in a home game.

Ashlee Bowman led Centre, scoring 16 points and garnering 11 rebounds. She also had three assists. Centre's' Ashley Griffith, a freshman, scored a three in the fourth quarter, her only points in the game.

Bennington was ahead, 15-10, by the end of the first quarter and increased its lead as the game progressed. Bennington players completed four three-point attempts.

In Friday's game with White City, the Lady Cougars were unable to compete with a stronger team. Quarter scores were 3-17, 13-34, 21-52, and a final of 31-69. Individual statistics were not available at press time.

Their season came to an end Monday at Goessel when they were defeated in a close game, 59-55, in the first round of the 1A regional tournament.
