Centre girls, boys earn first victories of season

The Centre High School girls' basketball team has a win under their belts after Friday's game at home against Elyria Christian School.
It was an easy win, as the Lady Cougars jumped to a 13-5 lead in the first quarter and continued to outscore the Lady Eagles in the following three quarters. The final score was Centre 57, Elyria 33.
Four girls scored in double digits: Shelby Deines 13, Carlye Simons 12, and Kylie Burhoop and Leann Pankratz 10 points each.
Samantha Alvarez scored eight points, and Allison Shields and Ripley Howard scored two each.
Boys
It was an easy win and, for the Centre High School Cougars it was a sweet one, their first of the season. They led, 39-17, at halftime and finished with a 22-point victory, 69-47.
The ball flew fast and furious whenever the Cougars made their way up the court. Trevor Troutt made himself big at the post, barreling in again and again for a total of 17 points. He shot 57 percent from the field. He also led at the boards with 10 rebounds.
Ben Krause was high-point man, scoring 19 points, including 2-of-2 baskets from outside the arc and 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. He also had five steals.
Bryant Brunner also finished in double digits with 11 points, including two three-point shots.
The junior varsity defeated Elyria, 62-34. Kacey Hanschu and Tyler Klenda led scoring with 13 points each.
Adam Matz and Nate Barney scored seven points each, Heath Hill and Rustyn Kerbs four each, Tanner Brunner, Savik Howard, and Canh Antoszyk three each, and Brian Burhoop and Zach Antoszyk two each.
