Centre girls finish 2-1 in first quad

Centre High School volleyball team won two of three matches in a quadrangular held Aug. 29 on its home court.
The girls defeated Elyria and Canton-Galva in two games each and was defeated by Inman in two games.
The games against Elyria were close, 25-20 and 25-21. Selena Seifert served for a total of seven points, followed by Kylie Burhoop with six, and Megan Gutsch with five.
Burhoop aced the ball three times. Seifert set the ball 19-of-22 attempts, five for a kill. Samantha Alvarez set 15-of-16, three for a kill.
Alyssa Luna led the defense with 11 spikes and four kills. Leann Pankratz delivered eight spikes and three kills.
In the match with Canton-Galva, Burhoop led scoring, serving for six points. Luna and Seifert served for five. Luna scored two individual aces.
Pankratz was strong on the front line, delivering 10-of-11 spike attempts and five kills. Alisha Barney completed nine spikes, four kills, and one block. Luna also had nine spikes as well as five kills.
In the last match of the evening, the girls battled a tall, strong Inman team and lost in two games, 16-25 and 17-25.
They started out well but fell behind as each game progressed. Megan Gutsch and Alvarez both served for seven points. Gutsch aced the ball three times.
Setting was perfect, as Alvarez went 12-of-12, two for a kill and Seifert 6-of-6, one for a kill.
Barney was strong at the net, spiking the ball in 10-of-10 attempts and blocking it seven times.
The team will play Saturday in the Centre invitational.
