Centre girls reach .500 after sweep years ago

The Centre High School volleyball team improved its record to 5-5 after defeating Solomon and Elyria Sept. 13 at Solomon.

Centre defeated Solomon in two games, 25-23 and 25-18.

Megan Gutsch served for a total of nine points. Alisha Barney served for six, Selena Seifert, five, Jackie Klenda, four, Kylie Burhoop, three, and Alyssa Luna, two.

The girls defeated Elyria in three games, 20-25, 25-18, and 25-22.

Burhoop served for points seven times including three aces. Gutsch also served for seven, one an ace.

Seifert was 63-of-64 in setting, 19 for a kill. Burhoop led on the front line with 19-of-22 spikes and seven kills. Luna was a perfect 12-of-12 in spikes including nine kills. Barney was 16-of-23, seven for a kill.

Klenda, Barney, and Gutsch had one block each.

The junior varsity played a match with Solomon and won in two games, 25-14 and 25-11.

Amy Hajek served for 13 points and Jessica Deines, 11. Samantha Alvarez added eight. Leann Pankratz and Bridgette Burns added one each.

The girls were 24-of-25 and 20-of-25 in team serving.

The varsity will play Saturday at the Herington Invitational. Their first match is at 10 a.m. with Hope.
